Kabitzin’s November 2004 List

Kabitzin on November 26, 2004 · in Progress Sheets

Blah, I’m out of town and away from my computer, so there haven’t been any updates the last few days. Still, many of the new series are turning out to be quite promising! This month, Kaleido Star won’t be featured, although those May laughing sessions were quite good and there was more awesome cosplay. Uta~Kata has similarly been missing in action in terms of subtitled episodes. I’ve also left off Otogizoushi, because I am way too confused to tell whether or not it’s good. Without further ado, here are 5 reasons why I was giving thanks this month:

1) Rozen Maiden: Aside from Guilty Gear, it’s the only time I’ve seen hair used as a weapon. Very unyu.
2) Beck: The music is really starting to grow on me, and it’s starting to transcend the engrish. I’ve been totally Full Moon Swayed.
3) Mai Hime: It’s pretty goofy, but the humor has actually been funny and not all heavy-handed like in episode 1. Midori is a great addition, and I admit that I was was wrong about Mai Hime’s ability to make me care about the bazillion characters in the cast.
4) Yakitate: I really love the bread-tasting reactions, and the appearance of Mr. Ed, the manager of Pantasia’s Southern Branch. Wait, what do you mean he’s not the manager…?
5) School Rumble: Very good comedy for when I want something light. The ED is really cute, too.

Rising:
– Naruto: Out of the drudges of filler land, and into the newest arc! I need more Sasuke angst!
– Genshiken: But sometimes it makes me feel uncomfortable…

Falling:
– The rate at which Uta~Kata and other series I want to watch are being subbed…

Series I want to watch but am too scared to:
– Kannaduki no Miko: Everything about it reeks of absurdity and fanservice, yet it seems well-loved. I want to see what all the fuss is about, but I am afraid because my Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito senses are tingling…

Kannaduki = Kimi ga Nozomu Eien with lesbians and super robots. It’s actually much better than I expected.

i’m embarrassed that i watch this show because it IS so crazy. it’s now up to episode 8 and however nuts it may have been before, this episode turns the world upside and everything has gone completely insane.

Kannazuki has become very entertaining from episodes 5 onwards, certainly better than Yamibou ever was. The writers did an excellent job depicting the internal conflict in Chikane, giving this show a lot more substance than you might expect.

I still recommend when watching KnM, don’t try to take it seriously, it seems like it’s meant to be a blend of all the classic anime devices thrown together (very amusing to pick them out…)
You know it when people start calling ep 8 the Hayase maneouver episode…

In episodes 8 and 9 Kannaduki becomes utterly amazing.

Chikane is one of the most complex characters of the season.

Ok, these hearty recommendations make me really want to watch Kannazuki no Miko. Especially the remarks about KimiNozo and Chikane being all angsty and complex. As for Sunabozu and Grenadier, I have seen a few of both series. Sunabozu seems ok, but I was not too big a fan of Grenadier which seemed like some horrible perverse rendition of Trigun for some reason. Maybe it’s just me…

Do it Kabitzin. You got to watch Kannazuki no Miko; it’s mindless fun watching mecha fighting, lesbianism, and high schoool “drama.” Also with Ayako Kawasumi playing Chikane (yay, uses deep voice tone), it makes it all the sweeter! :D

BTW, love Sunabozu. Laughed my ass off as I watched each episode. Grenadier…. mindless boob watching fun. bout it. Tis cool that Zoro’s VA is in it though… so that’s something.

I wonder why I landed in your spam filter again :-\

We’re currently under a massive wave (like 500 in the last 4 days) of spam comment attacks and so while my filter catches them all, I don’t have enough time to look through every instance and find the false positives T_T. Usually if there are just a few caught, I will check them to see if any are actual comments, but when the volume is so high, I just delete them all at once. The reason you might get filtered is that the spambots spoof IPs and may have used an IP that you are using now. If your message gets blocked, I guess all you can do is try to post it again T_T.

Another thing that helps is if you use the same email address in the email field every time. This gives you “whitelist” points to counteract your comment coming from the same IP as a spammer, since having an email in an approved comment gets you karma or something.

Ha, Kabitzin, you really ought to take a look at Kannaduki 8, if only for the OMGWTFBBQ value – the angst *alone* is worth the price of admission. But yes, it is very scary indeed — this series is 24 episodes (?) so they’ll have to up the ante to keep the momentum, but I can’t imagine them showing anything more drastic than this XD

Nonono, Kiminozo no Miko is 12 eps. 24 would be impossible to sustain ;) … as much as I’m amazed by Chikane as a slightly more organized and capable Mitsuki (Full Moon), 24 would be too much. Ah well, I can’t resist blue-maned beauties *dream*

Hey David, how about picking up Mai Hime again. Episode 8 is _really_ worth it, as you know. ^_^

So Kannazuki no Miko is that good? I’ll hafta catch it over winter break in a couple of weeks then :)

It’s kinda hard for me to pick a top five.. everything I’ve been watching has been going pretty well.. but I guess I’d put Uta~Kata at the top just because of how much I’ve been anticipating watching it every week recently (I hope y’all get some subs soon). And episode 8 of Mai-HiME put it up some more.. Rozen Maiden is great, of course.. School Rumble is full of laughs… And I finished up Kaleido Star yesterday so it’d have to be up there as well :)

I’d have to go with Moon Phase as the top show. Unlike Genshiken, Yakitate, Beck, Bleach, and School Rumble… Moon Phase actually isn’t following its manga roots word by word.
