Beck 05

Kabitzin on November 18, 2004 · in Beck

Chiba finally agrees to join Ryuusuke’s band and bring some hip hop flav-o-flav. They have trouble coming up with a name for the band, but Chiba gets inspired by Beck taking a dump. Across town, Yukio ends up getting roped into a band contest with Saitou and his reunited high school band. On the day of the concert, Yukio tries to get out (inclimate weather), but Maho shows up and takes a shower in his shower to convince him to come along. Unfortunately, after they show up, they find that Saitou has been downing the “Dack Janiels” and the vocalist, Kamejima, is so drunk he has to be taken away in an ambulance. Maho volunteers to sing, but because she doesn’t know all the lyrics, Yukio has to come in in the middle of the song. The audience likes Maho, but they love Yukio. However, since the whole contest was rigged for the company’s punk son to win, Yukio and Maho lose their bet with Saitou and have to go skinny dipping (wtf…). While they get nekkid and sing that Full Moon Sway song in the pool, Saitou (in a fit of drunken energy) dons his speedo, goggles, and Cheshire Cat before beating up the winner and stealing his tickets.

It’s interesting how the friendship-romance of Maho and Yukio is emerging as Izumi is pushed into the background. In spite of the engrishiness, I thought that the two of them singing in the pool was a very beautiful image. I’ve really been digging all the music so far, and the songs have been able to overcome the engrish. Woo, Rocket Boys!

definitely my fave Beck episode so far. The duet was pretty cool even if the singers’ english weren’t as great. That Full Moon Swag song is catchy, even with the fob-english singing :D
