False Positive!

by Kabitzin on November 7, 2004 in Site News

So the last four comments that attempted to get through got “Spaminated” by my “Spaminator” plugin, and sadly all four were for real. In fact, one was from Ender, and one was from me T_T. So I think this plugin will be deactivated and left that way until a new spam wave menace comes back, or a better plugin comes out. This is like weapons grade plutonium!!!

– Edit: Kitten has released an update, so maybe this will help?

Update 1/11/2004: I’ve cleaned up the code, and added a “whitelisting” check. If an email address is found to have previously approved comment, they get 5 “bonus” points to offset things like being from the same IP subnet as a spammer.

Of course, that means you have to leave an email to get the whitelisting check. The reason some people are getting IP banned is because those dastardly spammers use/spoof so many IP addresses!

One of the founders of Sea Slugs, I handle most of the blog admin tasks while wearing my I AM BOSS shirt. I like my action series well choreographed, and my romance series extra trashy. I also have a soft spot for puns.
