With the new season upon us, there’s been a splurge of different series available for our intake, but unfortunately very few of them have progressed far enough to pass judgement on. So, with a grain of salt, here’s my list for this month:
1. Gundam Seed Destiny – Kickin’ butt so far. Most likely the middle of the series will be achingly slow, and then pick up towards the end….
2. Kaleido Star – Subs are coming out slowly but surely…and as Kabitzin mentioned, Leon’s hidden angst has finally emerged!
3. Soukyuu no Fafner- I’m almost ashamed to say this, but it’s actually pretty engaging once you get past the NGE similarities and dense angstyness. However, watching 2 series with Hirashi Hirai character designs can get a bit confusing sometimes…
4. Kannaduki no Miko – I loathe to admit I like Fafner, but I openly embrace my cheesy side with this series. It’s beautifully animated, completely shallow, and ultimately quite entertaining (albeit in a completely brainless way). And it’s got killer OP/EDs!
5. Tie between :
Beck – It’s different. And funky. Gotta love the Engrishy punk opening. I was born to hit in America!
Yakitake JaPan! – After the second ep, I was hooked. You wouldn’t think a series about breadmaking would be addictive…but it is!
As for the ones that have potential…
Top o Nerae 2 – Gotta love it, but only 1 ep out!
Otogizoushi – Good so far, but when’s the reincarnation arc gonna start?
School Rumble – Hilarious, in an offbeat Azumanga way. But only 1 ep out!
Gankutsuou- Stunningly beautiful Gonzo. And no CG Mechs! Yet.
Bleach- Kinda mediocre atm, but I hear it gets waaay better.
Mai-HiMe- Must….kill….Nagi…….urkk!
