Kabitzin’s October 2004 List

by Kabitzin on October 25, 2004 in Progress Sheets

Man oh man, this season has been a head-spinner, and I’ve barely been keeping up with all the good anime that’s been flooding over me. I haven’t been able to find any Champloo lately, so it doesn’t make the list this month. With the end of FMA, and the slowed subbing of various popular series, there is unusual parity this month and it was hard to say pick a number 1. I’m very excited about a number of series, but here’s my top 5 for October:

1) Kaleido Star: Sora has been awfully wussy lately, but it’s Leon Grim Weeper angst for teh win!!
2) Beck: Drama and engrish make for a potent combination.
3) Otogizoushi: I’m a bit worried now that we are invoking reincarnation, but I like character redesigns, and now there’s no more fugly Seimei! Bring out the go boards; star opening for great justice!
4) Uta~Kata: Cute and mysterious, but what’s with all the subtle fanservice?
5) Yakitate: This show makes me so hungry I want to cry. Some of the puns are a little heavy-handed, though.

Rising (This month, this translates into series I like so far, but have not seen enough of to make a real judgement):
– Rozen Maiden: I almost died when she couldn’t reach the door ^^.
– Top wo Nerae! 2: Or whatever they’re calling it these days. Nononigi!

Falling:
– Madlax: Ugghhh, desire to watch the rest of this series is fading… Must fight Avenger memories and slog on till the end!
– Naruto: Ok, we get it; Idate sucks and wearing a unitard with an umbrella makes you evil. Even I am starting to get a little tired of these fillers…

One of the founders of Sea Slugs, I handle most of the blog admin tasks while wearing my I AM BOSS shirt. I like my action series well choreographed, and my romance series extra trashy. I also have a soft spot for puns.

ANN had a news item, announcing that there will be a 2nd season of Samurai Champloo. Season 1 supposedly ended with Ep 17.

Well, Naruto is supposed to get back to the manga plot from 107 onwards, so thankfully this crappy filler arc has been pretty short…

Right, the puns in Yakitate were just too fast for me – I guess it would be funny for a native speaker, though…

Seimei is ugly in ‘Otogizoushi’? He’s definitely not ugly in ‘Onmyouji’. Wonder who’s right here. Production IG or whoever created that ‘Onmyouji’ film.

And David, please stick around for Yakitate. Once the drama enters the fold, you probably find the series more….eh, palatable (ha, ha, yes, pun is intended, however lame that is)
