The episode continues on from 102 where Idate seemingly runs away from the start of the race. However, Idate had smartly notice the headwind blowing the opposite way of the destination direction, so he decided to take a shortcut and run instead of taking the boat to gain the advantage. However, the Wasarashi Clan has some surprises of their own as they send some familiar faces to slow down Idate. In addition, we find out that Idate’s older brother, Ibiki, was the first Chunin examiner that Naruto and the gang ran into, and Idate’s belief was that his older brother had been killed in action.
The episode picks up a bit in action, but it still seems like Naruto and company haven’t shown the evolved talent that I expected this far into the anime. And don’t get me started on Sakura lifting up the sail post and swinging it effortlessly to get rid of the gas-mask ninja gang…

Ha, the Sakura maneuver was pretty unexpected — but then again, she didn’t say “Sasuke-kun”, did she?
Sakura’s swinging the mast thing was weird in and of itself, but as big as it is, what happened to Naruto and Sasuke? She only told Idate to duck.
