The journey is delayed in town by several days of steady rain. Fuu takes a job as a waitress, and Mugen ditches his bodyguard job to try his hand at Kabuto (a type of horned beetle) Sumo gambling. Meanwhile Jin is tricked into a “cutting job” as an eel merchant. On his way there, he meets Shino; Shino is about to be forced into prostitution to repay her cruddy husband’s debt, and is considering suicide. Jin falls in love with Shino, and resolves to rescue her. Good thing Mugen’s Kabuto friend has been training hard, and has earned some phat lewts…

Ok Champloo, I forgive you. The last episode was good and this one was excellent. This is the type of story that I am willing to put off plot development for, and it actually made sense why they were having this side adventure. The music fit perfectly (especially during the final chase scene), and the imagery was beautiful from the beginning gloomy gray shot of Shino with her red umbrella on the bridge to the empty bridge bathed in light at the end. There was comedy with Kabuto Sumo, love with Jin and Shino, and even some hand-to-hand karate action. I hope the remaining episodes have more development on Mugen and Jin, because having Fuu get captured and rescued every episode was really boring. However, does this mean that they have ditched Momo-chan for Kabuto? Or do they each get an animal/insect helper? If you’d like to apply as Jin’s animal/insect helper, you have to possess the following skills:

  • You must be able to fly, or at least glide.
  • Fighting skills of some kind are a plus.
  • You have to be portable and able to fit in a pocket or sleeve.
  • You must have very good gambling skills.
  • For your own safety, you must be able to go long periods of time without food.
  • No talking sidekicks will be accepted.
  • Jin is an equal opportunity employer, so you can apply even if you are an invertebrate.

It’s wierd, but the last 3 episodes have been awesome! What a change :)

In my mind, I think of this as “Chrno Crusade Syndrome”. I use this term to describe series that start out hyped big, end up completely mediocre for the first 10 or so episodes, but then around the middle of the series wake up and suddenly get awesome. I hope that this can continue ^^.

No.11 really helped the Samurai Champloo series alot, i think. I mean who’d have thought Jin would actually fall in love? it’s only a matter of time for mugen and fuu then, i guess. i purchased a SC soundtrack but, that song wasn’t on there, unfortunately.

Episode 11 was so touching. All the characters are well formed.
