Uchuu no Stellvia 21-22

Everyone’s been noticing the rift between Shima and Kouta, and now it’s starting to affect Kouta’s DLS simulation training. Shiponsengumi attempts to patch things up, but their plans are unsuccessful. The adults are making progress at least; they have figured out the basic idea behind stopping the Cosmic Fracture. It seems that hitting the minimum point of energy with a sudden burst of energy will cancel out the rift. Unfortunately, this point is difficult to target, and any objects with large mass that approach the Cosmic Fracture will get destroyed. Clearly this is a job for Infi and a team of mathematicians/programmers. Also, the lanky guy that hangs out with Colonel Saunders (aka the Principal of Stellvia) is revealed to be an alien.

Things get even worse between Kouta and Shima as Shima continues to completely suck at the new DLS. Eventually, Kouta has no choice but to recommend that the DLS be configured for him alone. Everything looks grim, but then alien advisor dude (no idea what his name is) steps in with timely advice. It seems that in addition to being really evil, the cicadas are really great relationship counselors! Alien advisor dude hands off the communication protocol to the humans to decode a map of the Cosmic Fracture that the evil cicadas have brought back. I guess everyone just wants to get along now. When Kouta and Shima attempt to decode the message, they find that it is in the ancient language of Bust-A-Move, and not Tetris as they had originally thought. Shima roxxors Kouta in this new game, and Kouta concedes defeat. I predict that the relationship will work now that Shima has completely broken and dominated her boyfriend.

Although everyone’s all caught up in THE Cosmic Fracture, a lot of time is devoted to the cosmic fracture in Kouta/Shima’s relationship. I really enjoyed the little discussions between Ayaka and Kouta. Maybe Ayaka is giving Kouta advice for fear that he will put her in the hospital with a jousting move if she doesn’t help out. Too bad she isn’t very knowledgeable about relationships either, which is probably why she has been unsuccessful at wooing Yayoi (you have to be nice to her, not keep trying to put her in the hospital! Get it together Ayaka!). Relationships are at the forefront of these two episodes, and I approve. Even Jinrae-sensei has been uber-cool lately. Also, although the girls keep calling the boys useless, it’s not like the girls are doing any better. That’s when you know it’s time to call in your cicada relationship counselor.

I loved Uchuu no Stellvia when I first saw it. I watched it as the fansubs came out. It’s great anime. I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy reading your posts about it. First, because they remind me of why I loved the series so much. And second, because they are so darn funny.
