Episode 2 is a little more subdued, as SamCham does not trip all over itself trying to be hip-hop stylish this time. It seems that the guy who had his arm chopped off by Mugen wants revenge, and is willing to hire an interesting cast to help him. The most interesting one is definitely the assassin who faces off against Jin. He pretends to be some dopey old wuss, but in reality he may be more than a match for Jin (that’s two in a row he’s failed to kill now!) and may even return at a later time. The story about that ugly guy was ok, and I liked the feel of this episode too. I’m sure that this is setting the tone for what much of their journey will be like.

I was watching the ED and thinking about Fuu-chan’s search for the samurai who smells like sunflowers. When I first heard Fuu mention the samurai, I wondered if it was for revenge, but now I think she is searching for someone who is important to her. The ED is filled with images of changing seasons and moments of Fuu’s childhood (I think), and we see a young Fuu, her (faceless) mother, and also a slightly obscured picture of a samurai looking backwards just outside of a yard. A few frames later, we see the sunflowers. If you see how many shots there are of (what I believe to be) Fuu’s mother alone, and all the passing of time that occurs, it stands out that you never see Fuu’s father playing with them. So I’m placing my bet here that Fuu is searching for her father who left when she was young, and that is why she mentions that he smells like sunflowers. We’ll see how close I am. Oh yeah, I really like the ED.

It is possible that Jin was deliberately holding back in his fight. He want to know who hired the assasin, but that was a moot point when Ryojiro (the one armed man) bought the farm. Yep, we’ll probably see this guy again.

Dude, the story about the ugly guy totally reminds me of this one Inuyasha filler episode, among other things. Ugh, so…cliche!
