There was essentially no action this time, as most of the episode was devoted to character development. Back at home, Sai is very depressed since Jiyuu has not returned; meanwhile, Felicia’s attempts to corrupt Sai have been unsuccessful, and she is even finding it hard to hate Jiyuu. I guess for all their strengths, cute large talking animals are not good at raising well-adjusted little Russian girls. Speaking of Jiyuu, she’s laying wounded in the forest, where Ayunosuke has lathered a paste on her to help her recover. This paste is made by chewing up special leaves and regurgitating them, yum! Also hinted at is the terrible nature of living for 300 years. How is Jubei involved in all this? The ending is a bit dramatic, as Ayunosuke undergoes some mysterious changes. Very sad. Oh yeah, Mikage is still wandering around and bleeding somewhere in the forest.
The two monkey boys get a much larger role this time with amusing results. Listening to them, you’d really think that going to cram school will make you an intellectual and linguistic superhero! I love when they use their engrish powers to say “Oh, Nice Idea! Monkey Morning! Little Monkey Morning!” They even understand Felicia’s awful Russian (Lussian)!
